Onion Routing AR Walking TOR

The Onion Routing AR Walking TOR was a participatory interpretation of the inner workings of onion routing and the TOR browser using augmented reality and location-based virtual markers. First presented at the Radical Networks Conference on October 20th - 21st, 2017, Ribeaux and Hanson took participants to find on a series of geolocated 3D models representing global servers as waypoints around the Radical Networks venue. This participatory activity using 3D models formed a simulation of onion routing, where each participant represented a programmatically routed data packet. Each route was randomly generated with each stop slowly decrypting a hidden message.

Made in collaboration with Donald Hanson.
